ENVIRONMENT

B&B De Beekvallei is an excellent starting point for every demanding tourist as for the hikers, as well as the keen cyclists or the culture lovers.
For shopping pleasure you can find the famous Designer Outlet in the city of Roermond and the well known Maasmechelen Village in the city of Maasmechelen, in only twenty minutes from the B&B.

RIVIERPARK MAASVALLEI (RIVERPARK MEUSE VALLEY)

From the garden of the B&B a walking path leads you directly to the Riverpark Meuse valley. Cyclists can join the cycle path network that leads to many miles along the Meuse river and Meuse Waterfeatures.

The River Meuse, an impressive rain-fed river, created a divers and fascinating landscape, throughout the centuries. A tangle of old flows, cut-off meanders, dykes and floodplains have arisen. High and low waterlevels brought great diversities. Gravel, sand and clay form a base for a typical flora and fauna.

HISTORICAL CITIES AND PROMINENT VILLAGES

The Riverpark Maasvallei cannot be seen without taking its rich history in consideration. Historical cities and prominent villages bear witness to a history, entwined with the Meuse. Historically, the Meuse valley was a trade route of big strategic importance, witnessed by some preserved castle-estates.

The picturesque villages and little cities form a chain along and around the Meuse. From B&B De Beekvallei you can walk (6 km) to the white city of Thorn which was a principality centuries ago. The historical centre of Thorn has been classified as protected city sight. Places of interest include the little streets paved with original Meuse cobblestones, the historic church (Abdijkerk) and the Municipel Museum “The Land of Thorn”.

A little further, close to the village of Panheel, is Fun Beach, where you can enjoy the beach, water sports and other activities. In Maaseik, the home town of the famous brothers van Eyck (Lam Gos), you will find a beautiful marketplace. Walking and shopping in Maaseik is a must when you are in the neighbourhood. The Pharmacists Museum at the marketplace is definitely worth a visit.
On the Dutch side of the river Meuse you are the towns of Roosteren en Susteren and the historical city of Stevensweert. A little bit further, but perfectly accessible by car for a daytrip, are the cities of Luik, Hasselt, Tongeren, Maastricht, Valkenburg. In Germany the cities of Aachen and Cologne are well worth a daytrip.

FOR WATERFANATICS

Kinrooi is also a water paradise with a wide range of recreational possibilities. Since the middle of the last century, the gravel dredging created huge lakes, which turned into recreational purposes. Water fanatics have plenty of choice. Here you can learn to surf or sail, rent a bout or a dinghy or waterbike, take the ferry across The Meuse to Stevensweert in the Netherlands or go on a boattrip to various destinations wih the Paep van Meinecom III.
Sun-worshippers can relax on the beautifully creaated beach at the Steenberg.
The big Meuse lakes are of course also a dream-location for fishermen.
